Do you feel stuck in chronic illness?
Are you stuck in your illness? Are you stuck for better ways to manage chronic illness?
Do you feel stuck? (in your illness, not on the fence like the cow!)
Many people seek homeopathy because they’re stuck. Not quite like the cow on the fence, but each in their own way. Want to know what I mean by this? Then read on….
It seems to me, as for many practitioners I’m sure, that patients have often sought homeopathy as a kind of last resort. It’s actually kind of heart breaking to admit that, as to be honest even I fell into that category, many moons ago. It really shouldn’t be that way and one has to ponder the whys and the wherefores, but on the whole the conventional medical paradigm is so strong, so overpowering, that it often means the patient has to exhaust every single (sometimes physical and soul destroying) avenue of western medicine before they are open to looking at alternative routes to better health. Before they are even willing to consider there may be a better way. (Yep, that was me also, it took a long while before it sank in).
So, as a practitioner, we accept that. Which is also a crying shame, as not only has the patient often reached a point of no return with standard medical care, they have also lost hope, and a great deal of their health along the way. Medications with debilitating side effects, or effects that are not even seen for months after the original prescription - are then replaced, or run alongside other medications to counteract the original side effects …..yep, you can see where I’m going on this.
No-one knows where the adverse effects (or artificial diseases, as homeopaths know them) end and any real disease may have begun. Has their original complaint resolved or just been put on hold while the body deals with the fall out from their prescription? Quite honestly, how would the patient know?? But here they are, a complexity of symptoms, assuming that this is all just a bit of bad luck, that this is their lot in life, wondering if they will ever feel better. Generally, those patients are stuck.
Well, homeopathy is great news for them! All is not lost, really. Think of ourselves as onions, built up of layers, and in that very core, in the centre of all those layers, is our original self, the original onion. The original us, before all those layers of medication piled on top and wrapped themselves all around us, hiding our very core. Homeopathy gets to the root of why we were ill in the first place, by gradually stripping back through all those layers, distinguishing between the original illness and the artificial symptoms created by medication. There is hope – and without side effects.
So, at this point, you’re probably thinking “OK, I kind of get what you’re saying, but can you give me examples of how someone might have got into such a mess?”
Sure I can! And these examples are far more widespread than you might think. Let’s take the example of a young woman, on the contraceptive Pill for the last ten years. Side effects of the Pill can include headaches, weight gain, nausea, irregular spotting. How does she resolve the headaches without coming off the Pill? Long term use of painkillers, perhaps? Here we go…...side effects of paracetamol can actually include nausea and headaches. Ironic huh? Hmmmm. So here we are, a young woman, plagued by headaches induced by steroid (the Pill IS a steroid), aggravated by nausea caused by either the pain relief or the Pill, which is it? Or perhaps it’s a new unrelated symptom; how would she know? In which case, hmmm, err on the side of caution and pop back to the GP’s about the debilitating nausea which is affecting her appetite. A prescription of Omeprazole follows and hey ho, have a guess at the adverse effects? Well, yes, nausea again, but also itching, peeling skin amongst others. So now the patient thinks she might have eczema, let us pop a bit of steroid cream on that.
Where does this all end??
A patient on three different medications, along with nausea and headaches, some skin rashes thrown in for good measure, and we haven’t even delved into the many other side effects that plague the over-medicated.
This is what I mean by stuck. Where does this patient go from here? Her mental and emotional health is now seriously affected as she feels so rubbish most of the time and fed up with symptoms that just seem to get worse, or change, or spread. It may well be a long time yet before she starts to question what’s going on here, and then she starts to realise there may be a different way, a better way, and so she starts digging into alternative therapies…and eventually, she comes to homeopathy.
When all else has failed, she comes to homeopathy. Her last resort. Her friends may laugh and say, really?? There’s nothing in it! And at this point she has nothing to lose then so gives it a try. One treatment in, her skin rash stops itching and begins to heal. Two treatments in, the nausea has resolved, and she can eat normally again. Her skin is back to normal. The headaches have reduced drastically, and she hasn’t had to reach for the painkillers in weeks. Her mood has lifted. Just as importantly, she has been given time to talk about all this stuff, all the problems that have plagued her life for years, the tearful mood swings and the guilt of feeling that way in front of friends and family.
Homeopathy has peeled back the layers, she is no longer stuck. Could this be you?
Makes you think, doesn’t it? This is just one example. But we end up getting ‘stuck’ for so many reasons. Feeling that way but not sure why, how it has come to this, fed up with whacky symptoms that have no end?
Give homeopathy a go. You really have nothing to lose and certainly no more side effects to gain. And just like the cow, you can get off the (very painful!) fence.
If you’re feeling stuck and a bit on the fence, please contact me. I’ve been there, done that, bought the really rubbish trousers. Homeopathy can work wonders on just helping to alleviate the side effects of medication for a start. And as remedies don’t interfere with medicines prescribed by your GP or pharmacist, you can continue taking what you need to but avoid taking further medications just to combat the undesired effects.
